Needle punched exhibition carpet roll from India: what to specify

Exhibition and event carpet is laid for days, walked on by crowds, rolled up and laid again. A needle punched nonwoven suits it because it is dense, hard-wearing and cheap enough to be treated as consumable. This guide is for carpet makers, converters and importers who buy the nonwoven as roll stock and need to know what to specify.

What the carpet has to do

  • Lie flat and stay flat when walked on, wheeled over and rolled
  • Hold its colour evenly across the whole roll, so panels match on the stand
  • Resist crushing and pilling under foot traffic
  • Roll and unroll without cracking or shedding fibre
  • Be wide enough that few seams are needed

Fibre

  • Polyester (PET) — hard-wearing with good recovery; widely used for exhibition carpet
  • Polypropylene — light and does not absorb water; a lower-cost option for short-term use
  • Recycled fibre — available as recycled PP or PET in some grades; confirm the colour range with a sample

See polyester vs polypropylene for how they compare.

GSM and thickness

A heavier, thicker carpet feels more solid underfoot and survives more events, but costs more and is heavier to ship and handle. A lighter carpet suits a short stand with light traffic. Our weights span 100–1200 GSM, so the weight can be matched to the job instead of defaulting to a standard grade. The GSM guide explains how weight relates to thickness and feel.

Colour consistency

On a show floor, a visible difference in shade between two panels is the commonest complaint. Approve a sample first, and ask that repeat orders are matched to it. Our multi-colour needle punched felt is made in a range of colours, set to order.

Roll width and length

Our rolls are 5.0–5.2 m wide and can be cut narrower to the widths you lay, with a standard roll length of 50 m (other lengths on request). A wide roll means fewer seams on a large hall. Tell us your standard widths and roll lengths so we can quote against them.

Roll stock, and what is finished elsewhere

We supply the needle punched nonwoven in rolls. Surface finishing such as ribbing, backing or printing is a separate step; if you need any of it, say so in your enquiry so we can confirm what can be arranged before you order. Samples are available on request. Send your specification through the enquiry form or use the quote checklist. Related: carpet backing and flooring underlay felt.

Questions

What is exhibition carpet made of?

Usually a needle punched nonwoven made from polyester or polypropylene fibre. It is dense, hard-wearing and economical for short-term use.

What weight of carpet is best for an exhibition?

It depends on traffic and how many events the carpet must survive. Heavier carpet feels more solid and lasts longer, and lighter carpet suits short, light-use stands.

How do I keep the colour even between panels?

Approve a sample and ask that repeat orders are matched to it. Order enough from one batch for the whole hall where you can.

What roll width can you supply?

Roll widths of 5.0–5.2 m, which can be cut narrower, with a standard roll length of 50 m (other lengths on request).

Have a specification in mind?

Send the application, fibre, GSM, width and quantity and our export team will reply with a quote. Samples are available on request.
